echinacea and rats
My rat Lan is over 2 years now and for a lot of his elderly life he has reoccuring respiratory problems, for which I’ve taken him to the vet and had meds a handful of times the past. However when they resurfaced recently I started giving him the herbal supplement echinacea instead, an inexpensive children’s tincture used to boost human immune systems. He had become somewhat lethargic and didn’t leave one spot very often, the opposite of his usual rambunctious and exploratory self. When I started giving him echinacea he did a total 180 and absolutely perked up again. I wouldn’t prescribe it as a cure to serious respiratory illness, but I’d recommend any rat owner with rats with runny noses to try it, it has reduced the sneezing from all of my rats and I’m quite pleased with it.
